Modern vehicles are a positive hotbed of environmental issues that need to be carefully managed. Even when they are in daily use, they are a constant threat to our environment through pollution contributing to the build up of greenhouse gases.

Carbon Footprint

ELV Solutions has been in the forefront within its sector in promoting and carrying out practices that are sympathetic to our environment. All our trucks are EVO IV compliant making them one of the most efficient trucks of their size available today. (We are looking at “Stop – Start” technology and “Hybrid” engines but technology is still some way away from practical use.) Routine maintenance is carried out religiously. Under-inflated tyres mean the engine has to work harder, burning more fuel. These are checked daily! Load planning and planned deployment using the latest technology restricts the number of unnecessary miles travelled for no reason.

Regular traffic updates are communicated to our drivers to ensure they are not stuck in long traffic jams turning out unnecessary pollution. All our drivers are carefully monitored to ensure they drive within the speed limits. It reduces CO2 emissions and saves money on the fuel costs. At 70mph you could be using up to 9% more fuel than travelling at 60mph and up to 15% more fuel than at 50mph. We have been a proud supporter of “Trees for Cities” for a number of years now. Every time we purchase a new truck to our fleet we donate a sum that will offset the effect of the truck joining the fleet. To date we have sponsored hundreds of trees in the North of England and Scotland. We are also working with new initiatives with our clients on numerous other initiatives in this field.

We have recently commissioned a company to examine our carbon footprint. It is our plan at ELV to reduce our current footprint by 25% by year 2014. All our lighting at our 55,000-sq-ft base in Edmonton is energy saving, with strict controls on heating and lighting levels contributing to our expected reduction in our carbon footprint.
